South American restaurants have been popping up throughout Des Moines, mainly in the past year. And there may be a new culinary excursion in Des Moines that explores the range of food and subculture from this continent.
Wow! Des Moines Tours will tour a group of foodies across the metro to explore South American cuisine on July 27 and Oct. Five. Both tours will start at 2 p.m.
The tour will explore the origins and records behind distinctive ingredients like ceviche, empanadas, and chimichurri sauce—and all without a passport.
The foods and cultures of South America offer exceptional variety. Des Moines has numerous restaurants offering the cuisines of Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, and Peru.
The excursion manual might be Clemen Wilcox, a civic chief in Des Moines and a native of Colombia. She will share information about her way of life, food instruction techniques, and substances.
A local chef will demonstrate how to make true empanadas at one forestall. Tour-goers will meet eating place proprietors at other stops, flavor their meals, and learn their stories.
Other Wow! Des Moines excursions consist of pizza, tacos, and breaded tenderloin sandwiches.

I have had the terrific fortune to travel around the sector and pattern the food of many exceptional cultures. While many countries have extremely good culinary traditions, others are not so top-notch. I truely agree that American delicacies have to make us all proud.
Allow me to begin with the hamburger. I recognize that it technically commenced in Germany. However, Americans have taken this culinary pleasure to an entirely new stage. Whether it’s far with cheese, bacon, greens, or any other combination you can consider, the hamburger is probably the most recognizable instance of American delicacies and something that, in my travels, I have even found different international locations attempt to emulate.
Another example of American delicacies that makes me especially proud comes from my domestic kingdom of Texas. Chicken fried steak is a dish that has, and I have not seen all of us stroll far away from disappointed. I take into account once I went to an eating place in the heart of London known as The Embassy of Texas. I noticed that each patron changed into ordering the “quantity eight” meal, and I knew without even searching that it needed to be the Chicken fried steak. Sure enough, it became, and I ordered it myself. One of my favorite representatives of the wide and diverse landscape known as American cuisine is as uniquely American as the game with which it is most often associated. The hot dog is something almost all of us delight in, and I had two friends from Italy who only wanted to eat hot dogs for the entire week. They were visiting me in the U.S. back when I was in college.
Casseroles are also a form of American cuisine that I have seen many Mexican friends enjoy. That was always surprising to me because, while I enjoy casseroles, I eat Mexican food fairly regularly. When I am around my friends, they always ask whether we will have green bean casserole or tuna fish casserole, and I always ask about tacos, tortas, or enchiladas.
