Raindrop’s Cafe Where Native American Cuisine Meets The Community

For the ones looking for a quick chew or a chunk of comfort meals, a new eating option has opened just west of Southampton Village. Raindrop’s Café, a farm-to-desk eating place owned and operated using contributors of the Shinnecock Indian Nation, celebrated its reputable opening over Memorial Day weekend with raffles, tastings, and a craft marketplace.

But even a month before its official opening, fanatics of Raindrop’s fusion delicacies, which merge conventional Shinnecock fare with current favorites, have already been settling into the café’s cozy confines within the white building placed at the back of Raindrop’s Quick Stop on Montauk Highway.

Bryan Polite is the proprietor of the café and the head roaster at Raindrop’s Coffee, produced on the website at the rear of the construction. Deana Smith is the restaurant’s operational supervisor, coping with all house operations fronts. Samantha Sosa is a culinary professional in the kitchen. It’s there that she whips up small bites together with soups, stews, sandwiches, and salads, lots of which are fused with the flavorings and kinds of conventional Native American fare—a menu reflective of the meals that each one 3 of them grew up with at the reservation.

“It’s fusion,” Ms. Smith defined at some stage in a current go-to the café. “I used my grandmother’s recipes. She passed away years ago and lived on Heady Creek. She would make clam pie; we might move and get the clams and peel potatoes. We maintain it traditional and have delivered our recipes.”
Among the precise offerings on the menu is a venison Philly cheesesteak, stimulated by the fact that Ms. Smith once lived within the City of Brotherly Love.

“It’s marinated venison with onions, mushrooms, and cheese,” she stated.
Other services at Raindrop’s include omelets, French toast, sandwiches, Native nachos (frybread crowned with venison, turkey, beef or vegetarian chili, tomatoes, lettuce, cheese, and bitter cream), succotash, samp (a corn-based Native dish), seafood chowder, burgers (turkey or beef) and a “3 Sisters Carving Board” presenting grilled squash, inexperienced beans and corn chips with corn and bean hummus. The café will even serve Shinnecock-raised oysters in season.

“This has been years in the making,” said Mr. Polite, who came to the café enterprise after laboring as a police officer for the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe in Connecticut and attending regulation school for 12 months.
“I was making plans to head back to high school, then I got into horticulture and the science behind espresso roasting,” explained Mr. Polite, who has used the same roaster in his circle of relatives since the mid-nineteen-nineties. “I fell in love with getting my hands inside the earth and watching the expression of humans after they revel in the result of your hard work.”

In addition to generating the espresso packaged and bought at Raindrop’s Café, Mr. Polite has also operated a natural farm behind the construction. While creating regionally sourced, excessively pleasant dishes is the number one priority at the brand-new restaurant, he notes that Raindrop’s Café is, in the end, about making connections with the network.

“I wanted to create an area where people can enjoy the right meals and super communication. That’s what the espresso is ready, and I see it as a subculture of the area,” said Mr. Polite, who discovered the espresso enterprise from his mother, Dianne Vieira. “We need this area to be an educational platform for the outdoor network.”

To give up, Raindrop’s Café has already become a network and cultural hub. In April, the restaurant becomes a “Game of Thrones” website” very last episode party. In early June, Raindrop hosted a meet and greet breakfast occasion with contributors of the Southampton Town Democratic Committee and applicants running for local office.

In the months in advance, an outdoor craft fair can be held each weekend at the back of the café, and other happenings are planned for the future. So, prevent by way of and spot what’s cooking!
“We’re excited and constructive for this summer,” stated Ms. Smith.
