Two caterers get food hygiene grade cut to ‘C’ after forty five people fall unwell

SINGAPORE: Two catering corporations have had their meal hygiene grade reduced to “C” after 45 people fell ill in separate incidents of food poisoning. The incidents concerned Chilli Api Catering and Pro*3 Institutional Catering, which had their scores downgraded on June 18 and June 17, respectively.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) said in a joint response to CNA’s queries on Saturday (Jun 22) that Chilli Api had catered for Jurong Polyclinic personnel on Dec 18, 2018.
Twenty-four polyclinic workers who ate the food advanced symptoms of gastroenteritis between December 18 and December 19. None of them has been hospitalized.
Authorities conducted a joint inspection of the caterer’s kitchen and determined numerous hygiene lapses.
“While the exact causative pathogen for the outbreak couldn’t be determined, fecal coliforms had been detected in meals and environmental samples, indicating terrible non-public and environmental hygiene and meal guidance practices that may have contributed to the outbreak,” stated MOH and SFA.
“SFA additionally found hygiene lapses along with bad home tasks on the premises and the exhaust hood.”

The incident related to Pro*3 Institutional Catering came about at the National Junior College Boarding School in where 21 human beings experienced symptoms of gastroenteritis between Mar 9 and 10 this 12 months.
None of them has been hospitalized.
A joint inspection of the in-residence kitchen discovered hygiene lapses along with poor housework on the premises, said MOH and SFA.

CNA has contacted Pro*three Institutional Catering and Chilli Api Catering for a remark. They are among three caterers who have had their meal hygiene score downgraded to date this month due to cases of food poisoning.
Earlier in June, SFA posted a notice on its website that Delizio Catering had its food hygiene grade reduced to “C” after 18 people fell unwell at a Christmas birthday party.
In May, Elsie’s Kitchen’s meal hygiene grade was downgraded to a “C” after a meal poisoning incident involving dozens of people in advance within 12 months.
In April, the government investigated a gastroenteritis outbreak at Zhenghua Primary School after 230 people felt unwell with symptoms such as diarrhea and vomiting.
